The question of the Jews and its solution - a rare publication by the children of "Mishmar HaEmek" warning of the danger of exile just before the outbreak of the Holocaust. Winter, 1938

The question of the Jews and its solution. Booklet of diagrams and numbers. Created by the "Olim" group of the children's company of Hashomer Hatzair in Mishmar HaEmek as a gift to the Jewish National Fund and the Keren Hayesod. Winter 1938. A rare publication by the children of Mishmar HaEmek about the situation of world Jewry near the outbreak of the terrible Holocaust.

Unique booklet with tables, diagrams, linoleum cuts, and picture which were created by a group of children in Mishmar HaEmek. The members of the group, children only 14 years old, created the material out of a learning trend of knowing the relationship between the homeland and the Diaspora. The children carried out in-depth theoretical work in order to concentrate the geographical, historical and literary material around the question of the Jews in Eretz Israel and the Diaspora, and published it as a private booklet intended for the children of Mishmar HaEmek only. During Mr. Natan Bistritzky's visit, he was deeply impressed by the work of the children, and he expressed his opinion that this small booklet may be of benefit to all children and youth in Eretz Israel and the Diaspora. The children willingly accepted the offer and handed the booklet to the Registrar of National Funds for printing. They copied all the material - the original made two years earlier was in colors and needed to switch to the black and white technique, and also added new material and corrected the numbers according to the updated data when printing the booklet. The result is a historically rare booklet that includes high-quality photomontage works and an important analysis of the Jewish problem just before the outbreak of the terrible Holocaust.

The charts and diagrams each appear on an entire page, next to each chart there is a historical 'conclusion' about the fate of the Jewish people. For example, next to a map of the number of Jews around the world, it is written: "Many are the scattered lands of the people of Israel. But most of the Jews were concentrated in several lands, and here the Jews sit very densely." A table appears on the "abnormal economic situation of the Jews". Next to a map describing the main migrations of the Jews over the generations is written: "A simple account. A. The Jews sit as foreigners within the nations of the world. B. The Jews are a small minority in every country and country. c. The Jews are busy only in economy. This creates the trouble of the Jews. Anti-Semitism is created as an expression of xenophobia, the pressure of the ruling majority regarding the Jewish minority is created. The slightest upheaval in the economy severely harms the economic situation of the Jews, hence the constant migration of the Jews in the Diaspora". It was written a few months before the Nazis began to establish the ghettos in Poland that they had occupied with the outbreak of World War II. On another page, the children conclude: "All attempts to improve the situation of the Jews in the Diaspora were unsuccessful. The only solution to the question of the Jews: a majority of the people of Israel in the Land of Israel."

On the first page is an impressive photomontage photograph showing the members of the various exile in their traditional attire and a large question mark painted on it. On the last page is a photomontage photo rich in details depicting the regenerating Land of Israel.

31 p. 17x24 cm. Slightly fragile paper. Tears on the margins of the cover. Slight tears on the margins of some of the pages. general condition good- moderate.
