Rabbi Shmuel di Modenah [1506-1589], known by the abbreviation of his name, Maharashda"m, was among the leading sages of Salonika, Greece. He was an Av Beit Din and renowned adjudicator who had questions sent to him from various countries. He also served as a rosh yeshivah. This book of responsa is one of the most important books of responsa there is.
