1920 Pennsylvania Engineer & Infantry Colonel Promotion Documents. Named to Colonel Jackson Whitney Study. He was promoted to Major of Infantry 1919, Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry 1920, Colonel of a Infantry 1920, Colonel of Engineers 1920. These documents were signed by the Governors of Pennsylvania William Cameron Sproul and Gifford Pinchot. Sizes are 11 x 17 inches. The condition of each promotion document vary. They all show wear from age and use. One document has brown spotting at the bottom. Information found from the internet: Colonel Jackson W. Study, Transportation Corps, A. E. F., United States Army, Commanding officer of the 103rd Engineers, Pennsylvania National Guard. Jackson W. Study was born in Tyrone, Pennsylvania on July 8, 1883. Study served as a Captain and commanded Company D, First Infantry, Pennsylvania National Guard during the Mexican border crisis. He then served with the 103rd Train Headquarters, 28th Division. Study was promoted to Major in the Railway Transportation Corps on October 28, 1917. He was then assigned to duty as Adjutant to the Director of General Transportation, A.E.F., then to duty with G-4, General Staff, G.H.Q., A.E.F. Study was then promoted to Lieutenant Colonel , Transportation Corps on November 4, 1918. General John J. Pershing awarded Study the Meritorious Service Purple Heart and cited him for “exceptional meritorious and conspicuous service.” The French Government made him an officer of the French Ordre de l'Etoile Noire. Study was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on June 25, 1919. Colonel Study served as the commanding officer of the 103rd Engineers, Pennsylvania National Guard from 1921 to 1933. Study worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for more than fifty years, retiring as Chief Clerk to the vice president in charge of operations. Jackson Whitney Study died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 1950.
