A Study of Nudes by Theodore Handcock - Personal Folio

Theodore Hancock, British- American (1923-1989). Portfolio of sketches and studies of male and female form nudes, 33 pieces. Many signed as well as dated from the 1950s forward. Pen, watercolor, all on paper.  Many are suitable for framing with sizes ranging from 17 by 13 3/4 inches to as small as 5 1/2 by 8 inches.  The condition ranges from Fair to Very Good.

Hancock mainly worked in watercolor: his work was modernist and heavily incorporated engineering and technology. His mural, Man and Computers, explores the close relationship linking man and the then-new machine, with a 'web-like intimacy' between the two. He was an official artist to NASA and its Apollo space program in the 1960s as part of the NASA Art Program. The United States Navy commissioned him as a Cadet of Fine Arts Forum Visiting Artist at the United States Military Academy at West Point. His work can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., the United States Navy Art Collection, the Air Force Space & Missile Museum, as well as Private Estate Collections and University Endowments.

Provenance: Private Collection
