Goblet displays a simple, sleek design with stepped base and bulbous knob protruding from the stem. Fine Hebrew engraved verse from Havdalah service “Kos Yeshu’oth Esa UveShem Hashem Ekra” surrounds the parameter of the cup near the rim. Old repair. Marked. Height: 4.7 inches (12 cm).

c. 1840.

The Hebrew inscription contains the abbreviation for “Le Prat Katan,” meaning that the Hebrew date is written shorthand. For another example of a Polish silver Havdalah cup with this similar abbreviation in the same very distinct engraved style, see Jay Weinstein, A Collector’s Guide to Judaica (1985) p. 52 no. 36.
