Letter from the 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft, three months before his death, December 1929

Letter signed by the 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft, three months before his death, December 21, 1929.

A letter written at the end of Taft's life as president of the Supreme Court of the United States. In his letter, Mr. Taft responds to Mr. Leon Wortney's from the 'American Eugenics Society' and says that he does not refer to the content of Supreme Court rulings as they are written in the public press.

William Howard Taft (September 1857 - March 8, 1930) was the 27th President of the United States (1909-1913) and then the President of the United States Supreme Court (1921-1930), the tenth. He is the only person in American history who has served in both roles. Taft was elected president in 1908 as the successor to Theodore Roosevelt. In 1921, after a distinguished career as a law professor at Yale University, President Warren Harding appointed Taft as President of the Supreme Court, a post where he served Taft until about a month before his death. He is best known for his extensive activities on the subject of individual rights.
