Very Large Indus Valley Stamp Seal with Animal
1st millennium BC
A large bronze seal matrix with dentilled edge and integral rear loop, design of three radiating running animals (wolf, goat, sheep) each with a serpent issuing from beneath the stomach, central S-curved serpent with open mouth and smaller serpent exiting. 160 grams, 74mm (3"). Very fine condition.
Provenance
The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
