DEM REBBE’S   BEINKLE
Holy Chair Used by the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar While Living in Eretz Yisrael

Background: This holy chair was originally stationed in the Beis Din of Satmar, used by Rabbi Yeshaya Kleinman- Moreh Tzedek of Satmar, during Beis Din meetings. Occasionally the Admor, Rabbi Yoel of Satmar would join these Beis Din discussions, during which he was honored and given this seat.
Following the Holocaust, Rabbi Moshe Yaakov Weiss of Satmar, grandson of Rabbi Yeshaya and future Rabbi and Av Beis Din of Nevei Achiezer discovered that the chair had been hidden and had thus survived the Holocaust. He then shipped this chair to Jerusalem to his brother, Rabbi David Meir Weiss, Rosh Mesivta of the Belz Yeshiva.
Upon the arrival of the Divrei Yoel to Jerusalem, it came to his attention that the chair was in Jerusalem and he requested permission to use it.
Rabbi David Meir Weiss recounts how Rabbi Moshe Yeshaya Berkowitz, son-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael Brief enthusiastically carried this holy chair over his head and brought it to the home of the Admor, who used it constantly at all hours of the day and night while learning, seeing followers and leading the “tisch.” The Admor would even doze off in it after long hours of Torah study, as it is known that he did not sleep in a bed during these years.
After the Admor moved to Brooklyn, the chair was returned to Rabbi David Meir weiss.

Rabbi David Meir’s father, Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Weiss- Moreh Tzedek of Satmar and Gaava”d of Nevei Achiezer lovingly referred to the chair as “dem rebbe’s beinkel” (the Admor’s chair) and cautioned to treat it with respect.
