Machzor with Kavanat HaPaytan, for Shavuot, "According to minhag of Ashkenaz and the rest of the holy congregations", with Yiddish translation and explanations. Amsterdam, 1768. Printed by the Proops brothers.
Elaborate ancient leather binding, with a gilt dedication by R. Shaul, Rabbi of Hague, and is wife Rabbanit Dinah, who gave this machzor as a bar-mitzvah gift to an orphan. On the front cover, along the outer frame, is an embossed dedication: "Gift for the drasha, from the renowned Gaon, our teacher Rabbi Shaul HaLevi, may his light shine, and his wife, Rabbanit Dinah…to the marvelous young man, Yehoshua, may he live a long life, the son of the our renowned teacher Rabbi Yissachar Bersh ztz”l of Copenhagen." Embossing was added to the inner frame: "From his wife, Rabbanit Dinah." Embossed on the back cover is a "self-dedication", apparently from a later time: "I bought this in the holy community of Hague for 13 gold coins, 18 Elul 1786, Hirsh son of Yissachar.”
18 cm. Good condition. Some stains. Original leather binding with gilt embossment of decorations and inscription. Signs of wear and damage to binding and spine.
