Tractate Pesachim of the Babylonian Talmud, Constantinople
Estimated date of publication: between 1583 and 1595. Printed by Rabbi Yosef Yavetz. A most precious find.
Rabbi Yosef Yavetz, the grandson of the pious Rabbi Yavetz, author of Or HaChaim (‘the first Tzaddik of the last pious ones’ in the words of the Chid"a). Rabbi Yosef Yavetz was a professional printer and published many books. The crowning glory of his publishing house was the Babylonian Talmud with Rashi and Tosafot. With citations from Ein Mishpat and Ner Mitzva. With the halachic rulings of the Ro"sh.
Another important Tosafot that was added to the Gemara for the first time in this edition is the comments by the Maharsha"l (Chochmat Shlomo), which was published as a separate book in Cracow, 1582.
