“Rema M’Pano” Sefer Kavanot, first edition, of the Ariza"l on Rosh Hashana and Sukkot, booklet that belonged to the Kabbalist Gaon Rabbi Menachem Azariah of Fano, and the pages are adorned with his handwriting. Very important.
This manuscript contains kavanot (Kabbalistic intentions) for Rosh Hashana and Sukkot. Copied in flowing Italian script. It belonged to Rabbi Menachem Azariah of Fano, who studied it in-depth and added his many lengthy comments to the pages. These comments of the Rabbi Menachem Azariah have never been printed!
Rabbi Menachem Azariah of Fano (1548-1620), was the rabbi of all the kabbalists of the western countries, and was renowned for his great wisdom exceptional knowledge of Torah, halacha and Kabbala. He studied Torah with Rabbi Moshe Provencialo and Kabbala with Rabbi Ezra of Fano and Mantua and Rabbi Yisrael Serug, and while studying with them he also learned the kabbalistic teachings of the Rama"k and the Ariza"l, and understood the differences between them.
Rabbi Menachem Azariah wrote very important works on both the revealed and concealed Torah. The sages of his generation and the following generations extolled him and his books. The Shla"h wrote, “Sefer Yonat Elem, written by our teacher, Rabbi Menachem Azaria, is a book that is fitting in the eyes of Elokim and man.” The Yavet"z similarly praised him: “A precious man who reigns in the wisdom of truth and is blessed in every type of resourcefulness.” The Chatam Sofer called him “the father of the kabbalists.”
