חקר הציורים ובית הכנסת Dura-Europos שנוסד בשנים 245-256 לספירה
דורה אירופוס הייתה עיר הלניסטית ורומאית מוקפת חומה שנבנתה על מדרון בגובה של 90 מטר מעל גדת נהר הפרת. היא נמצאת ליד הכפר א-צלאחייה בסוריה של ימינו. העיר נוסדה על ידי הסלאוקים בסוף המאה ה-4 לפנה"ס על צומת של נתיב הסחר מערב-מזרח ונתיב הסחר על נהר הפרת. מאוחר יותר הפכה העיר למוצב קדמי של האימפריה הפרתית.
בית הכנסת נחפר בשנת 1932, הספר נותן תאור נרחב על החפצים שנתגלו בחפירות ומנסה לתת הסבר לכל הפריטים המאוירים .
לשם כך משתמש המחבר בטקסטים, בפרושים רבניים ובמיתוסים יהודיים.
