MEGA RARE !!! 1940's WWII Isle of Man Onchan Internment Prisoner War Camp Half penny 1/2d token
During World War II, part of the island was used as a camp for refugees who came to Britain from enemy countries. Mainly people who were suspected of collaborating with the Nazi regime were placed in this detention camp. As expected, most of the immigrants were Jews fleeing the Nazis. Over time, the quarantine camp became a cultural and educational center, and at certain times, professors from Central European universities and deans from Oxford and Cambridge who fled Europe also stayed in the camp. The Jewish immigrants established a school and a "university" in the camp.
