HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954) LITHOGRAPH ANNOUNCING NATIONAL GALLERY EXHIBIT FOR THE BARNES FOUNDATION COLLECTION – 35in x 37in, 89cm x 94cm
Henri Matisse (1869-1954) color lithograph titled Le Bonheur de Vivre after the original which was originally created in 1905-1906. It was produced on heavy stock museum paper, and it measures 35 inches x 37 inches and it is matted and framed under glass in an ornate, golden frame. This piece was acquired from the estate of an ex-employee of the National Gallery in Washington, DC. This piece was produced in 1993, and was in brand new condition, found untouched for 30 years in a poster tube in her house. The Barnes Foundation exhibition was highly controversial (see movie The Art of the Steal). However, over 520,000 people came to the National Gallery to see this exhibit in 1993.
