Byzantine Reliquary Cross Pendant with St George
10th-12th century AD
A large bronze enkolpion reliquary cross pendant comprising two hinged plates and an articulated suspension loop with vertical rib; obverse with facing nimbate figure in orans pose with feathers, legend 'AO ΓEOPΓHOC' (St George); reverse with hatched panels and five inset glass cloisons. 130 grams, 12cm (4 3/4"). Very fine condition.

Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s.
