Western Asiatic Old Babylonian Cylinder Seal with Worship Scene
19th-16th century BC
A haematite cylinder seal with gods and objects in the field; accompanied by a museum-quality impression, and a hand written and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of haematite, 25.5 x 13 mm. Three standing figures: god in long robe to right, god with mace facing, worshipper to left; filler: duck; solar disc in sky. Old Babylonian, c.1900-1600 B.C. Worn W.G. Lambert.' 10.45 grams, 26mm (1"). Fine condition.
Provenance
Property of a London gentleman; previously in the late Hassan Reyhani collection before 2000; acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s-early 1990s; thence by descent.
