Western Asiatic Sassanian Gold Ring with Hunting Scene Gemstone
3rd-7th century AD
A gold ring comprising a hollow-formed D-section hoop, biconvex ellipsoid bezel with inset garnet cabochon, intaglio rearing lion stabbed with a spear by an advancing huntsman. 4.90 grams, 26mm overall, 17.59mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7 1/4, Europe 15.0, Japan 14) (1"). Very fine condition.
Provenance
The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
