Very Rare - Photo Album of the "Kazet Theater" in the Bergen-Belsen DP Camp - 1945-1947
An amazing and chilling album documenting in photographs the activities of the "Kazet" theater group (KZ, Konzentrationslager - abbreviation for concentration camp in German) of Holocaust survivors in the Bergen-Belsen DP camp. The group's first performance took place on stage in September 1945. The performance included segments of its acting and singing about Jewish life in ghettos and camps. The theater's founder and director was Zami (Sami) Feder, who survived 12 concentration camps. Some of the members of the troupe had a stage career.
This is a leather album bound with a drawstring, with one photograph glued to each page and a stamp of the theater next to it: The Jewish Theater Studio: Concentration Camp Theater of the central Jewish committee of Bergen Belsen. The same stamp also appears on the back of the photos, and on some of them also a stamp from the Sami Feder archive.
In total, the album includes 24 photos of varying sizes.
29X19 cm. Condition: Wear to the cover, two pages detached, the photographs are in very good condition. Dedication in pen on the first page.
Provenance: The estated of Chaim Topol.
