* The title page of the first section bears a
handwritten dedication signed by his son and successor, Rabbi Avraham Aharon Katz av”d Nitra.
Rabbi Moshe Katz, av”d Nitra (1842-1927) was the son of Rabbi Menachem Katz of Prostějov, av”d Tzeilem. He was a talmid of the sons of the Chatam Sofer: the Ktav Sofer and Rabbi Shimon Sofer, av”d Krakow. From 1895, he served as av”d Nitra and led a prominent yeshivah there. (

Rabbi Avraham Aharon Katz (1869-1930) was a disciple of his father and the Shevet Sofer, he took over his father’s rabbinical position. His sons-in-law included: Rabbi Shlomo Weiss, av”d סעמניץ; Rabbi Mordechai Halevi Leitsch-Rosenbaum, av”d טאליא; and Rabbi Menachem Hakohen Fisher, av”d שארוואר (
HaChatam Sofer V’Talmidav, p. 553)
