RAD EM/NCO'S "W" Assignment Identification Cufftitle (Armelstreiffen)
Introduced in January of 1939, the special lettered cufftitle was worn by RAD personal working on defensive positions in the Siegfried line. The cuff titles were produced in both officer and enlisted versions. The cuff title was withdrawn from service sometime after April of 1941.
A very decent example of an enlisted cufftitle. Machine woven, rayon construction. White (enlisted) " W" and stripes on a black field. Machine woven to the top of its rayon base, in white threads, is " G.& W." beneath it, and " Ges." and " Gesch., " for "Gesetzlich Geschützt" (By-law Protected), to either side of it. The latter is an abbreviation of the manufacturer of the patch: Gunther & Windrath GmbH, Wuppertal-Unterbarmen.
