Bibliotheca Sussexiana - Catalog of the Library in Kensington Palace, 2 Elegant Volumes. London, 1827

Bibliotheca Sussexiana. A Descriptive Catalogue, accompanied by Historical and Biographical Notices, of the Manuscripts and Printed Books contained in the Library of His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex in Kensington Palace.

Magnificent copy consisting of two volumes of high-quality paper in their original bindings with a gilt imprint of the book's title and the author's name on the spine. The first volume covers the printed books, and the second volume covers the manuscripts. In 1839, another volume of the catalog was published; it is not included here.

The catalog was authored by Thomas Joseph Pettigrew, known as "The Mummy" Pettigrew. He was a physician, surgeon, and antiquities expert. He served as surgeon to several members of the royal family, and as part of his royal duties, he was commissioned to create a detailed catalog of the large library owned by the king's son, Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex. In the framework of his intense interest, he kept a vast library in his palace, which was claimed to contain more than 50,000 religious manuscripts, covered in this beautiful catalog.

Volume I: [4], 24, [4], CCXICIV pp. Volume II: [20], 516 pp.
Very fine condition. Aging stains; the bottom of the spine of Volume II is slightly detached.
