Melechet Machshevet. Venice, 1710. First Edition
Melechet Machshevet al HaTorah by the gaon, the philosopher Rabbi Moshe Chefetz [1664-1712], one of the leading sages of Italy. First edition. Venice, 1710.
The book was printed in Venice and deals with scholarly and philosophical commentaries on the Torah. On the title page: "Authored by a wise man, the rabbi and gaon, the G-dly philosopher Rabbeinu Moshe Chefetz ztz"l, and printed in Venice, in the year עת לעשות ליי, when he was 100 years old." The book also contains Torah content from his son R' Gershom, who died of the plague in 1700, when he was only 17 years old.
This copy does not include the leaves that were added after completion of the book, including the illustrated title page, a picture of the author and various sketches (refer to Ginzei Yisrael 649). Yet it does include: 'Rules of Scholarly Research' at the beginning of the book and a table of errata at the end.
[8] 98 leaves, 30 cm. Light, high-quality paper.
