Poster regarding elections in Jerusalem. "Elections for the city-council for the Ashkenazic communities...in Jerusalem…Adar b, 1919. 1919. With a piece of paper added after the printing.
[1] large leaf, 63x30 cm. Text along the length of the page, on both sides of the leaf.
Right after Palestine was conquered by the English, new elections were conducted for the 'Ashkenazic City Council in Jerusalem'. Here is a lengthy list of names, with about 1100 community members, males over the age of 30, who were eligible to be elected to the 'city council'. First and surname and additional title, such as teacher, doctor, Rabbi from America. Each male over 20 who was a qualified voter chose seventy people from the list.
The elected officials listed according to the regions from where they came, such as: England, Russia, Poland, America, Romania, Holland – Germany, Austria [including Galicia, Kossov, Vishnitz, and Bucovina, Hungary [Including Máramaros, Zibenbergen and Munkacs].
3 names were mistakenly omitted, so their names were added on a small piece of paper that was taped to the leaf.
Rare, significant, historic leaf. Not listed by the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book
Light tears to the original folds and the edges of the margins. Fine condition.
