Tabula quarta Asiae (Fourth Map of Asia) - hand-painted woodcut published by Gaspard Trechsel, Vienne, France, 1541. Latin.

Map of Asia per the map by Claudius Ptolemaeus (The astronomer and geographer better known as "Ptolemy"), depicting the Land of Israel and broader parts of the Middle East. Map number 18 of Claudii Ptolemaei Alexandrini Geographicae edited by the Spanish theologian and humanist Michael Servetus (1511-1553). The text of Ptolemey's Geography was printed in Lewin, while the maps were printed in Vienne by Gaspard Trechsel.

44.5x31.5 cm, printed on two attached leaves of paper.

Fine condition, aging stains, creases and wear. Tears, some with small lacks in the margins and in the horizontal fold mark. The leaf is affixed to a thin piece of paper for reinforcement.
