Seder HaKuntressim, Shabbat hymns, kiddush text for Shabbat and festivals, birkat hamazon, havdalah, hymns for ritual circumcision and other celebrations, services for Chanukah and Purim, with the Passover haggadah per the custom of the Venaissin region. Avignon [1765].
Important and especially rare book! Among the only books printed in Avignon [France]. Only five Hebrew books were printed there in the 18th and 19th centuries; this is the first book printed there. The book is designated for the Carpentras, Avignon, Cavaillon and Lisle communities in the South of France. Jews in these communities were also known as the Pope's Jews (in French: Juifs du Pape) in Venaissin county (le Comtat Venaissin), Avignon, in present-day France. These ancient communities had their own special customs and text, printed here for the first time.
Text on the title page: "Seder HaKuntressim including kiddush and hymns for Shabbat, havdalah and songs for Motza'ei Shabbat, Chanukah candle-lighting, the Purim service, the Passover haggadah and kiddush for Yamim Tovim, service to be read on the night of Simchat Torah. Added to these original contents: Hymns and kiddush for bridegrooms and hymns ... for daily recital, all sorts ..." individual hymns are partially in Judeo-Provençal (bilingual).

Fine condition. Aging stains. Slight tears, professionally restored, in the margins of several leaves, without damage to text. New semi-leather binding.
