Historic Handwritten Letter by Rabbi Shneur Kotler on the Eve of the State's Establishment

All Jews are responsible for one another

Lengthy and important historic letter [approximately 40 lines]. Entirely handwritten by the renowned gaon Rabbi Shneur Kotler, rosh yeshivah of Lakewood in the United States, to his friend in the Land of Israel, in the midst of the terrible period of the British withdrawal just before the War of Independence and the establishment of the State. Lakewood, 1948. Letters from Rabbi Shneur are very rare.

In his fascinating letter, read with bated breath, Rabbi Shneur precisely conveys, with his famous literary acumen, the feeling of Jews in America regarding the anticipated additional destruction of the Jewish people, after just a couple of years previously, a massive part of it was annihilated in the Holocaust. (Clearly, no one foresaw the amazing supernatural miracle that would occur), writing as follows:

"News of the situation ... torments me"; "Takes away any possibility of concentration or thought"; "Apparently our generation took nine of the ten portions of tribulations"; "It may be that the feeling is different where you are, and the spirit of dedication and sacrifice fill you and give you strength and courage to hold strong with great responsibility that was given to us"; "Awaiting Hashem's salvation in the blink of an eye" and much more. Exciting historic letter.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Shneur Kotler.
