Letter from the Gaon of Erlau to the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld Regarding his Book 'Hitorerut Teshuvah'

Important letter, entirely handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Shimon Sofer, av beit din of Erlau and beloved son of the Ktav Sofer, to the Mara D'Ara Yisrael, the gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, regarding his book Hitorerut Teshuvah - the name by which he was known to subsequent generations. Erlau, 1926. Letters from the Hitorerut Teshuvah are extremely rare.

However, 'all is dependent on mazal, even a Torah scroll in the Temple.' Yet in this letter, we can see that even a famous gaon on the level of the 'Hitorerut Teshuvah' does not rely solely on mazal to publicize his important and sought-after book; he sends several copies from far-off Hungary to the gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld in Jerusalem to distribute in study halls and kollelim "such as Kollel Teiman Sepharad." Obviously, he did not intend that Rabbi Sonnenfeld do this himself, but "via one of his loyal assistants."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Shimon Sofer.

Specification: [1] postal postcard, stamped and postmarked. 10x15 cm. Approximately [50] words in his hand.

Fine-very fine condition. Minimal aging stains and abrasions.
