Historic Item: First Book by Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef at the Age of 17. Rare

Kuntress Yabia Omer - first book by Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, composed when he was only 17 years old: Chiddushei Torah B'Sidrei HaTanaa'im V'HaAmora'im al pi Sugyot HaGemara by the youth Ovadiah Yosef, S"T, a student in Yeshivat Porat Yosef ..." Jerusalem, 1938. First edition. Historic and rare.

This compilation, the first publication by the Rishon LeTziyon, evolved into the famous book series Yabia Omer that changed the face of Oriental halachic ruling and raised the stature of Oriental Jewry.

The book opens with an approbation by Rabbi Eliyahu Lopes, rabbi and teacher of the author, who writes about him: "... and from the time he started studying with me I recognized that he would achieve great heights in Torah..."

There is a short preface by the author at the beginning of the kuntress where he writes that there are many who think that it is a waste of time to write about the order of Tana'im and Amora'im, however, he proves otherwise. In this introduction, he also explains the reason for choosing the title Yabia Omer - the name that later became the title of his great and important book series.

This compilation demonstrates Rabbi Ovadiah's great and famous broad expertise in Talmud and adjudicative literature - Rishonim and Acharonim, already from the time he was a young student in Yeshivat Porat Yosef. The book includes many hundreds of references to sefarim.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for an excerpt from the chapter in Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef's biography that discusses this compilation.
