High-Quality Reproduction - Jews at the Western Wall - Alexander Bida - 20th Century
High-quality and especially large print - renowned painting by Alexander Bida depicting the Western Wall.
This painting is considered one of the most outstanding paintings of the Western Wall, and served as a basis for many later works.
Interesting fact related to this painting - in Bida's original painting, painted in 1855, the Jew on the left is depicted sitting on the floor of the plaza, with a prayer book next to him. But the gentile painter, who was of course not expert with Jewish law, did not know that according to halachah, sefarim should not be placed on the floor, as a sign of respect. As such, the French painter Alphonse Masson shortly after (in about 1862) prepared a 'revised' print, in which the Jewish figure is seen standing, and without the prayer book. The vast majority of the prints that were subsequently distributed are with the aforementioned revision.
