Tanach - Amsterdam, 1701. "Goral HaGR"A" Edition, Illustrated Title Page

Twenty four. Pentateuch ... with Early and Late Prophets and Writings. Amsterdam, 1701. Edition used by Rabbi Aryeh Levin for casting lots.

Title page with copperplate engraving depicting Moses and Aaron and another two title pages in Hebrew and Latin. Latin foreword and six-stanza poem in Hebrew. Two columns on each page.
Rabbi Aryeh Levin used this edition printed in 1701 to cast the "Goral HaGR"A" lots, according to the tradition he learned from his teachers, the Roshei Yeshivah of Volozhin, sourced from the GR"A of Vilna himself.
Rabbi Chaim Volozhin, Rabbi Aharon Kotler and others, used this lot to receive answers to questions that they could not resolve with the revealed Torah. The most famous of these lots is undoubtedly the one cast by Rabbi Aryeh Levin in 1950 to identify the corpses of 12 casualties of the ill-fated Convoy of 35 not identified by other means.

[6], 292 leaves, 293-306, [4] pages. 14 cm. Very fine condition, other than reinforcements to the back of the title page. Nice binding.
