Kadshei David – Student of the Holy Or HaChaim.
Kadshei David, novellae on Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, together with Chasdei David, commentary and explanations on Shulchan Aruch, Hilchot Pesach, by Rabbi David Chaim Shmuel Hasson. Livorno, 1792 (5552). First and only edition.
Rabbi David Chaim Shmuel Hasson was born in Salé, Morocco, and was a student of the Or HaChaim HaKadosh and one of his closest disciples who ascended with him to Jerusalem in 1742 (5502). He was among the scholars of Yeshivat Knesset Yisrael and signed the introduction to his teacher’s book Rishon LeTzion, published after the Or HaChaim’s passing.
In Jerusalem, he served as a dayan (rabbinical judge). In 1758 (5518), he embarked on a mission to North Africa, and on his way back, he was appointed as the rabbi of Alexandria, where he served from 1765 to 1771 (5525-5531). Later, he moved to Livorno, where he led a yeshiva. He passed away in 1795 (5555).
The Chida (Shem HaGedolim, Ma’arechet D, Ot 18) mentions him as a student of the Or HaChaim.
