A rare historical artifact – a postal money order (check) for 20 shekels, written entirely in the sacred handwriting of Maran HaGaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, including his signature

The check is issued to Rabbi Dov Ettinger author of the sefer Pe'er Tachat Efer
Rabbi Ettinger had sent his sefer to Rabbi Elyashiv requesting an approbation haskama
Rabbi Elyashiv indeed wrote him a beautiful approbation see attached image
However in his renowned scrupulousness in financial matters Rabbi Elyashiv insisted on sending back the price of the book exactly as noted in the margins of the haskama
Handwritten documents and signatures of great Torah sages are revered as amulets making this check an extremely significant collector’s item

Known for his extraordinary diligence and mastery of all areas of Torah enabling him to issue clear and decisive rulings on any topic
In his later years he became the undisputed leader of the Torah world in Israel and abroad
