About Maran HaGaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach (1910–1995) was Rosh Yeshiva of Kol Torah and one of the greatest halachic authorities of the last generation, known as "Posek HaDor" for his universally accepted rulings. At just 24, he published Ma’orei Esh on electricity and Shabbat, establishing himself as the leading expert in halacha and technology. His Shabbat rulings, compiled by his student Rabbi Neuwirth in Shemirat Shabbat Kehilchatah, became the definitive guide on Shabbat laws. Known for his humility, kindness, and warmth, he was revered across all Jewish communities. Despite his stature, he never accepted an official rabbinic position. His funeral was attended by hundreds of thousands.
