Aseifat Zekeinim by the Chafetz Chaim, with the 'Mugah' Notation in his Penmanship
Sefer Aseifat Zekeinim on Tractate Menachot. Chiddushei HaRashb"a and leading poskim, published by the gadol hadorot, Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin, the author of Chafetz Chaim. Pietrkov, 1909. First edition. 'Mugah' notation in pencil on the endpaper, handwritten by the Chafetz Chaim.
The chilling notation 'mugah' is written on the endpaper of the sefer. The Chafetz Chaim would write this on his sefarim, usually himself. As is known, the Chafetz Chaim would sell his sefarim himself, and would check each sefer put out for sale out of concern that he would transgress the prohibition of gezel and hona'ah. Each sefer that was checked would earn the notation "mugah" [proofread] in his hand. The Chafetz Chaim was generally particular to write this himself, out of concern that others might write "mugah" without sufficient checking. Many of these notations have disappeared over the years due to rebinding.
