Iggerot HaKodesh by Rabbi M. M. of Vitebsk. Hard-to-Find Chassidic Sefer. Not Found in the National Library. Signatures
Sefer Iggeret HaKodesh - divrei Torah and mussar by leading Admo"rim in the first generations of Chassidism. [Lvov or Zolkiew?], without the printer's name, 1840s.
On the title page: "Beautiful words from the great rabbi, butzinah kaddisha Rabbi Menachem Mendel zllh"h of Vitebsk ... and by the famed rabbi and Chassid, Rabbi Elimelech zlh"h and Rabbi Yabea ... in addition, Sefer HaZechirah and a composition by Rabbi Levi Yitzchak ztzlh"h of Berdichev." Leaves [13-14] bear "New compilations by the rabbi ... the maggid ... of Mezeritch."
Rare edition of this important sefer. This edition is listed by Ch. Lieberman, Sefer Iggeret HaKodesh - Kiryat Sefer 36, 1961, pp. 128, no. 5. and Ohel Rache"l Part I, p. 65. Refer as well to Stefansky, Chassidut 11. This edition is not found in the National Library.
The title page mentions the name of the Kalisk rebbe referring to him as among the living ["נר"ו"] and Rabbi Yitzchak Levi of Berdichev is already mentioned as among the deceased ["זצלה"ה"]. In light of this, there are those who reason that the sefer was printed in late 1809, after the passing of the Rabbi Yitzchak Levi of Berdichev in Tishrei, and before the following Shevat, when Rabbi Avraham of Kalisk passed away.
