Zohar Chadash. Slavuta, 1793. With the Rare Leaves

Zohar Chadash. Brought to print by the rabbi exalted in fear of Heav-n and Chassidut, the naggid Rabbi Yechezkel, son of the great ... rabbi Pinchas Shapira. Slavuta, 1793. One of the first books printed at the press of the rabbis, the Shapira brothers of Slavuta. Special copy. Photocopied title page.

The book was brought to print by Rabbi Yechezkel, son of Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz, primary disciple of the Ba'al Shem Tov, and brother of Rabbi Moshe of Slavuta. As far as is known, this is the only book brought to print by Rabbi Yechezkel Shapira, who resided in nearby Ostroh.

Special copy: In most of the known copies, the book ends with leaf 121 and ends with the press's characteristic decorations. The copy before us has an additional two leaves with a glossary. The Bibliography of the Hebrew Book notes that the title page states that the book contains a glossary but that it was not actually printed in the book.

123 leaves, 21.5 cm.

Moderate-fine condition. Aging stains. Reinforcing stickers on several of the first and last leaves. Worming perforations in the last 10 leaves.
