On the shores of the Sea of Galilee and in front of the Golan Heights, this rare structure is built entirely of basalt stones and many arches that characterize an Ottoman building style.
The hotel was built in 1850 named “Haifa hotel”. The hotel was subsequently expanded in 1925.
The hotel was one of the first hotels to open in Tiberias, at a time when hotels in Tiberias were commonly named after cities.
In 1946, the hotel hosted the famous Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, whose nickname was "Eastern Star" and following her visit, the hotel was renamed "The Eastern Star".
After the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, the well-known painter Shimshon Holtzman lived in the building, where he established a large gallery of paintings for visitors.
Among the many artists who visited and were guests at the house and even painted it are many famous painters including Nachum Gutman, Reuven Rubin, Amos Yaskil and many more good ones, and of course, Holtzman himself.
One of the famous paintings of the place was painted by Nachum Gutman and is called "The Promenade in Tiberias".
Over the years, the hotel's rooms have been restored in their original, special style and with many balconies, while combining past and present, old and new in wonderful harmony. Today it is named the "Shirat Hayam" boutique hotel.
