Exodus - the ship that won
State medal, 5777 1987
The Jewish struggle for the right to free immigration, which began with the Nazi elite in Germany, developed into a struggle against the British Mandate government after World War II, when the country's gates were closed to the rest of the exodus from Europe. Near the end of the mandate period, the British decided to break the qualification by returning the qualified to Europe. The first ship on which they acted according to the new policy was the "Exodus of Europe 5777" (Exodus). After a fight with 6 destroyers of the British Navy, the "Exodus of Europe" was captured in the middle of the sea on 7/18/47 and the immigrants - 4,530 people - were imprisoned in 3 British ships, which were ordered to lead them back to Europe, to Germany. The persistent struggle of immigration that culminated in the "Exodus" contributed its part to the decision of the United Nations on the division of the Land of Israel and the establishment of the Jewish state.
The face of the medal: the immigration ship Exodus. The address "Exodus 1947 Exodus" and the date July 18, 1947
The back of the medal: a clenched fist holding the Israeli flag, breaking through the barbed wire separating the sea and the land, a symbol of the stubborn struggle of the immigrants, free immigration and the establishment of the state.
Scope: the state symbol and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English. In the silver medal "Silver 935" and in English "Silver". In the gold medals 35 mm g. 916.6 G. In the gold medals 13 mm g. 900 the scope is notched
Numbering: all the medals that are part of the scope are numbered.
Design: Ruth Lubin.
Carving: Tidhar Dagan.
